NEXT MEETING
The application of fractography to failure analysis investigations involving material cracking often generates new and useful information regarding causation. In many cases aspects of component design, material selection, manufacturing, and use history can be ruled in or out, yielding a richer understanding of why fracture occurred. The practice of fractography and its scientific underpinnings are broad, but there are many nuanced differences between its application to different material classes. This talk will review fractography of brittle materials, with a focus on glass and ceramics.
Dr. Paul Verghese, is a materials engineer at Exponent, Inc, where he consults to a number of industries and stake holders on component performance, reliability, and failure involving glass and ceramics. Prior to joining Exponent in 2006, he worked in reliability, manufacturing, and design of electronic devices for the communications and diagnostic sensor markets.
