This is an evolving service, so please be patient if we have any technical difficulties! If there are any last minute updates or technical problems, they will be posted here:
Talk Overview:
The International Sports Engineering Association was founded 20 years ago to help organize and promote the relatively new sub-discipline of sports engineering. Initially, the field was focused on mechanical engineering topics, but has grown to encompass nearly all engineering and mathematics fields. A brief overview of the history of this field will be given, followed by specific technical case studies of sports engineering applications including the application of engineering fundamentals in aerodynamics, vibrations, metal fatigue, and acoustics. Finally, future trends in the sports, fitness, health and wellness industry will be discussed highlighting areas where engineering and science expertise will be required to launch successful businesses and products in this growing field. Kim Blair
A NASA trained engineer and Ironman triathlete, Dr. Blair, is a Senior Manager at Exponent, a multi-disciplinary engineering and scientific consultancy. Previously Dr. Blair was the founding Director of the Sports Innovation Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and the President of the International Sports Engineering Association (ISEA). Enabling innovation at the intersection of technology and sports, Dr. Blair has extensive experience utilizing advanced technologies to enhance all aspects of the sporting experience, leading the development of new products as well as technologies for sport performance analyses from early formulation of product concepts to final prototype design and testing.
