NEXT MEETING

January 22, 2020
Joint meeting with Central MA Chapter
featuring

James Scutti
Senior Fellow of R&D
Boston Scientific

"Innovative Metals and Medical Devices: Improving Patient Care"

pmNew and improved metals are creating higher performing medical devices with better patient outcomes. Nitinol use in medical devices continues to rise, with new higher purity and more biocompatible versions emerging. Bioabsorbable magnesium alloys provide an effective alternative to drug eluting stents and the clinical issues associated with such devices. The design flexibility afforded by metal additive manufacturing opens a whole new realm of patient-specific devices and improved outcomes. These technologies and their impacts on medical devices will be discussed.

James Scutti (FASM) is a Senior Fellow of R&D at Boston Scientific. Technical leader of exploratory R&D group and subject matter expert in metals and materials processing. Designer, developer and leader of R&D projects on medical instruments, implant and delivery systems product development projects, concept through commercialization, including endoscopic and cardiovascular implants such as stents, vascular grafts, mitral valve, hip implant, materials and processes of implants and delivery systems, biocompatibility, in-vivo and in-vitro fatigue and corrosion, histopathology, post market trending and explant investigations, competitive device assessments, patent review and strategizing, regulatory compliance. Developer of new technologies that enable new devices, treatments and procedures. Nitinol expert -- selection, processing and novel applications.
