DUST EXPOLSION HAZARDS

Virtually any oxidizable material can present a dust explosion hazard when present in a sufficiently small particle size.  Because of this, most industries contain combustible dust hazards in at least some portion of their processes or facilities.  During the last decade, increased awareness of combustible dust has led to actions by regulators, standard writing organizations, insurers and manufacturing facilities to further mitigate hazards.  In this presentation we discuss the fundamentals of how dust explosions occur, how to assess the hazards of combustible dust, and how to mitigate combustible dust hazards in industrial facilities.  The presentation will include an update on test methods and standards and regulations related to combustible dust.
