NEXT MEETING
Have you heard about the story of the famous 15th -century Vinland map cherished by Yale University since the mid-1960s? Well, no later than this month (October 2021), X-ray Fluorescence has confirmed what others already suspected: It was a FAKE!
There are many ways to analyze the composition of a material but choosing the best technique to understand your sample can be challenging. In this presentation at the ASM Boston Chapter, I would like to share the requirements for surface and interface analysis using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and related surface analysis techniques. I will also focus on case studies, showcasing how XPS can be used to solve real problems in a variety of areas, including polymers, battery electrodes, and of course, pigment analysis from a painting. Dr. James Lallo has been with Thermo Fisher Scientific since 2016, working with both EDS and XPS product lines. He has a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Rutgers University, focusing on Surface Science and UHV techniques. Based in NJ, James supports customers with their surface analysis needs throughout the country.
