Abstract
This presentation explores the application of metal binder jetting in producing the superalloy MAR-M-247, a material known for its exceptional strength at elevated temperatures. We begin by outlining the metal binder jetting process, detailing the key steps involved to go from metal powder to sintered part. This additive manufacturing approach is then compared to other 3D printing methods, emphasizing its distinct advantages for demanding applications.

We then dive into what defines a superalloy, highlighting their ability to perform under extreme mechanical and thermal stress. A detailed comparison of MAR-M-247 with other superalloys follows, focusing on its superior properties such as creep resistance and temperature stability.

Next, we present the findings of our investigation into the properties of MAR-M-247 produced via metal binder jetting versus traditional casting methods. We evaluate the microstructure, tensile strength, and performance in real-world applications. Our results reveal significant insights into how metal binder jetting can optimize the performance of superalloys for advanced engineering applications.

Ross Adams, a mechanical engineering graduate from UMass Amherst, previously held a role as Tool Design Engineer at Lockheed Martin's Sikorsky division. Since joining a leading 3D printing OEM Markforged in 2019, he's played pivotal roles, starting as an Application Engineer, then transitioning to Product Management. Notably, he led the enhancement of the Metal X product line, introducing new materials and software features. Now, as Business Development Manager for Markforged's metal binder jetting product line, Ross is committed to accelerating the adoption of this innovative manufacturing process across major manufacturing industries.
