Manufacturing Engineer

This client is well established, profitable and expanding.  They are implementing LEAN and looking to hire someone who can help them raise the bar and champion change as the strive to empowered every worker.

   The primary responsibilities for this engineer:  

·         Provide engineering floor support

·         Creation, assessment, documentation, and improvement of the manufacturing methods

·         Analyzing manufacturing process flows

·         Continual cost reduction, and throughput reduction

·         Participation on NPI teams from concept through to ramp ups

·         Interfacing with  vendors on product specs, equipment, parts, materials

·         Estimating relative costs for operational decision.

·         Develop, and implement training programs

·         Designing and developing manufacturing processes

·         Trouble shoot and resolve technical problems

·         Initiate root cause analysis, corrective action, and report generation

·         Investigate, justify, and implement capital equipment

Required Credentials

  • BS in engineering; ideally Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Comprehensive senior level mechanical manufacturing engineering expertise
  • Recent 5+ years as a Manufacturing Engineer supporting high tolerance, very precise mechanical  assembly
  • Experience managing complex projects
  • Proven ability to use metrics to justify recommendations
  • Strong computer skills:  spreadsheet & database development
  • CAD proficiency
  • Must have hands on implementation of LEAN,  Continuous Process Improvement, SPC,  Concurrent Engineering, DFM, Kanban, JIT
  • Comprehensive NPI experience
  • Machining experience is an asset

Plastics Equipment Supply Manager

Supply Chain Department  

Large and profitable corporation.  Continued divisional growth is creating opportunities.  This position reports into the purchasing department.  

This Mold and Automation expert’s mission is to support the global capital policy for automation, capital equipment, tooling.  As the technical guru for the supply chain department, this engineer will develop a unified capital strategy for a global, multi-site corporation.   This person will provide subject matter expertise, bringing in depth plastic mold and machine knowledge and experience to the team.  

Major responsibilities include:

·         Educate team members on the what, where, and why of selecting machines, tooling and molds

·         Support technical and commercial teams at different locations

·         Optimize technical specs and commercial terms to achieve best operational and financial results

·         Develop and implement automation, capital equipment, tooling strategy to produce best ROA

·         Participate in the identification of tool, machine and automation suppliers

·         Play pivotal technical role in guiding capital sourcing and supplier management

·         Recommend alternate suppliers and commercial agreements

·         Provide Capital Equipment, Tooling, &  Automation engineering support to global sites

·         Meet cost reduction goals


Experience required

·         BS degree in engineering

·         Expertise in capital sourcing

·         Knowledge of Injection Molding Machines, Tooling Molds, and Automation and Auxiliary equipment. 

·         Capital Equipment design and specification skills

·         Must be an engineer with technical depth. Exact experience and titles can vary from Maintenance Manager in a molding facility, Mold Tooling Engineer, Sales/Sourcing Engineer,  Product Engineer, Field Service Engineer, Plastics Automation Engineer, to Plastics Manufacturing Engineer, or Ops manager in a plastics house.  The key is not the specific title, the key is comprehensive plastics Mold and Automation expertise

·         Understands the pros and cons of using the equipment.

·         Technical experience with Injection molding machines, automation, molds, dies

·         Ability to justify supplier selection strategy on both technical and ROI levels

·         Knowledgeable in metals, tools & injection molding machine design,  manufacturing, and pricing

·         15-20% Travel, some overseas

 Compensation:   base salary to 100K; base salary reflects the selected candidate’s directly applicable industry and Capital commodity expertise

Engineering Position Available

in Silver Spring , MD

 

The Solid Mechanics Laboratory in the Division of Solid and Fluid Mechanics of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories has an opening in Silver Spring , MD for a Mechanical, Materials, or Biomedical (with mechanics, biomaterials, or materials science concentration) engineer.  We require a candidate with extensive knowledge of metallic materials and major concentration in one or more of the following:  solid mechanics, fatigue and fracture mechanics, experimental mechanics, materials science and engineering, and engineering and forensic analyses of failed components.  We also require extensive laboratory experience including designing and constructing mechanical test fixtures, and experience in computational modeling.  Experience with wear and corrosion testing and with orthopedic or cardiovascular medical devices is highly desirable.  We will consider candidates at the Ph.D. level.  The position involves approximately 50% laboratory research and 50% consulting support for reviews of new medical devices and analyses of failures with existing devices.  The position requires excellent spoken and written English.  U.S. citizenship is preferred.

Manager of Manufacturing Engineering

 This client has had an aggressive LEAN program in place.   This candidate will bring LEAN and Six Sigma to the next level at this well established, rapidly growing corporation. 

 Direct reports: Process Engineering Manager and Facilities Engineering Manager.   Responsible for being a hands on manager, supporting manufacturing operations in a LEAN environment and championing continuous improvement philosophies and strategies. 

•              Lead Lean implementation

•              Supply Six Sigma expertise to all facets of manufacturing

•              Initiate more advanced DFM NPI procedures

•              Manage NPI programs including layouts, schedules, budgets and staffing requirements

•              Improve NPI and manufacturing processes

•              Implement programs optimizing cost and yield opportunities

•              Execute and support data-driven decisions

•              Oversee justification, installation and repair of capital equipment and fixtures           

•              Re-engineer  and streamline work cells

•              Generate product cost estimates and costing algorithms

•              Support the resolution of customer quality problems

•              Develop documentation procedures

•               Develop and support a robust preventive maintenance program

 

REQUIREMENTS:

•              BS degree in engineering

•              Recent 3 years as the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering in an ISO plant

•              Recent experience as the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering in a LEAN /  Six Sigma manufacturing environment is mandatory

•              Proven track record of prolonged, constant, systematic elimination of waste as the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering

•              Significant, comprehensive knowledge and real world experience implementing the Lean Manufacturing and 6-Sigma principles

•              Considerable NPI experience including the implementation of LEAN / Six Sigma tools to the total product cycle

•              Experience leading Value Stream mapping activities and Kaizen events

•              6-σ Belt certification – ideally Black belt

•              Prior hands on experience managing the implementation of SPC

•              Hands-on experience in trouble shooting equipment problems and process improvements

•              Prior equipment maintenance and facility responsibility

PROCESS ENGINEER

BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing or other Engineering required.  Must have a minimum of 4+ years of proven engineering experience, with emphasis on product and/or process development and documentation in a manufacturing environment. 

This position will be responsible for process development, optimization and troubleshooting, as well as the preparation of process routers and drawings for the fabrication of glass fiber optic components.  A strong background in the forming, grinding and polishing of glass is preferred.

Responsibilities:
Provides technical support to the manufacturing operation that enhances quality, improves delivery, and reduces costs through product/process improvement, operator training, and equipment selections/installation and prepares process routers and drawings.
The individual in this position will troubleshoot and resolve both short term and long term manufacturing problems that impede quality or cost effectiveness. Optimize Chemical Mechanical Polishing processes to improve cycle time and throughput yields.

Develop and implement new Chemical Mechanical Polishing processes for new products into production.  Ensure existing and new products can be manufactured on robust and cost-effective processes by optimizing process settings, tooling, and procedures.

Additional responsibilities include:
Knowledge:
  • Background in the forming, grinding and polishing of glass or wafers is preferred. 
  • Developing, improving, and implementing production/processing methods and business processes that positively impact cost, quality and safety objectives.
  • Assisting with the development and administering training on new and existing equipment and products for manufacturing personnel to ensure product/process consistency.
  • Participate in management team's tactical/medium range decision-making and planning.
  • Assisting with the management of capital projects and provide technical support for the specification, design, purchase, installation, and commissioning of new equipment, retrofits, and tooling.
  • Data driven decision making
  • Proactive in ability to promptly identify  process deviations or new process capabilities.  Knowledge of glass or silicon wafer manufacturing technologies is preferred.
  • Ability to draft procedures and operating instructions for process and equipment.
  • Knowledge of metrology and test methodology employed for controlling polishing processes as well as SOI production in general is a plus.
  • A Lean/Six Sigma background is preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with operation, equipment and engineering groups as well as presentation to management and occasionally to customers and suppliers.
